Auntie Anne's Malaysia told to change hot dog name

Islamic authorities ordered the change to the brand's Pretzel Dog.

The reasoning? Even as the menu item contains no dog meat, it is confusing to Muslim consumers.

That is according to the Malaysian Islamic Development Department, who told the US-based food chain to remove the word “dog” completely from its menu, instead suggesting it be called Pretzel Sausage as part of conditions to obtain halal certification based on Islamic dietary laws.

Auntie Anne’s said it will comply with the request, and announced that it has already submitted a list of replacement names for the department's approval.
