Korea to have first McDonald’s branch in Asia to serve alcohol

Customers can swap their beverages for beers.

Korean beer and burger fans can rejoice, as Korea is poised to become the first Asian country to have a McDonald’s branch that serves alcohol.

According to McDonald’s news release, exclusively at the Pangyo Techno Valley branch, adult customers ordering McDonald’s Signature Burger meals can swap their beverage for beer by paying an extra charge at the restaurant’s self-serve kiosks.

McDonald’s Korea asserts that offering beer with burgers is common practice in premium-handcrafted burger restaurants in Korea. It also says that beer will appeal to adult customers seeking “a special and differentiated burger experience.”

As a precautionary measure, customers will be prompted to present their IDs at the counter after ordering to verify they are of drinking age. In addition, beer is limited to one glass per customer, and available for dine-in only.
