Sushiro eyes restaurants in Thailand, China

The sushi chain wants to increase its overseas sales by 10%.

Japan's Sushiro Global Holdings, operator of sushi chain Sushiro, will enter Thailand and China next year, Nikkei has reported.

The conveyor-belt sushi chain, which will be renamed Food & Life Cos. in April, intends to open its first restaurant in Bangkok next spring, understood to be part of the company's strategy to increase overseas sales to about 10% of total sales in fiscal 2021, through next September, from around 0.1% in fiscal 2018.

Sushiro intends to open 24 to 28 restaurants outside of Japan in fiscal 2021, up from 20 in 2020, whilst new eateries in Japan will decrease by three to five.

After entering Thailand, Sushiro will set up its Chinese business unit this month and plans to open one restaurant by next September.
