The decline was mainly attributed to food caterers.
Sales of food and beverage services declined 28.6% in August on a year-on-year basis, a larger fall compared with the 25.4% decline in July, according to Singapore’s Department of Statistics (SingStat).
The larger decline was primarily attributed to food caterers, which saw sales plunge by 70.6%, with SingStat explaining that catering services for the majority of foreign worker dormitories were no longer required from August.
Restaurant sales also fell by 32.2% followed by cafes, foodcourts and other eating places, which saw sales drop by 17.6%.
Fast-food outlets could be considered the most resilient category, with takings dropping by 10.9%.
The total sales value of food and beverage services in August was estimated at SG$665 million, of which online food and beverage sales made up an estimated 20.6%.
