CSE slams Indian QSRs for antibiotic misuse

Global giants such as KFC and Burger King made no commitments to eliminate antibiotic use in India.

According to The Hindu Business Line, global fast food companies do not have any India-specific commitments to eliminate the misuse of antibiotics in their meat supply chains. This is despite the companies having made “ambitious, specific and time-bound” commitments in the US and other countries, says a study released on Monday by the Centre of Science & Environment (CSE).

CSE deputy director general Chandra Bhushan said, “Fast food multinational companies have come out in the open and shown commitment to stop antibiotic misuse in the US and other countries, but have not taken any concrete steps in India. They do not seem to care about the Indian consumer and are not keen to cut down on their contribution to the rising AMR in this country."
