Popeye’s report strong sales in South Korea comeback
The fast food chain sold 50,000 chicken sandwiches in the first month of its opening.
US fast food chain Popeye’s reported strong sales, selling more than 50,000 chicken sandwiches—the chain’s newly launched flagship menu—since it first opened its doors on 16 December.
The chain’s operator, Silla Group, said that more than 5,000 customers visited its Gangnam branch during the first three days of the chain’s relaunch.
Silla Group attributed the strong sales to its marketing tactics to bring homey recipes of Louisiana to Korea.
Popeye’s operated in Korea for 26 years before shuttering its doors in December 2020 citing financial difficulties and a saturated market for fast food franchises.
The chain currently has two outlets, with the other located at Guro Digital Complex in southwestern Seoul. Silla Group said it plans to open a third location by the end of January.
