Japanese restaurants in Thailand grows by more than 20% in 2022

This has been the highest growth in 15 years.

Japanese restaurants in Thailand have grown by 21.9% or 955 from the year before to 5,325, a survey by Japan External Trade Organization (Jetro) revealed.

This has been the highest growth in 15 years.

In the capital, Japanese restaurants grew to 2,394 from 2,073 the previous year. Restaurants in provincial areas, meanwhile, grew from 2,297 in 2021 to 2,931 in 2022.

Of the total, 1,431 were sushi restaurants whilst 1,273 were restaurants that offer a wide variety of dishes. The rest were split between ramen restaurants, cafes, donburi places, izakaya restaurants, and others.

Out of all the restaurants, ramen restaurants and izakaya had the highest percentage of growth in 2022.

According to the report, the Japanese restaurant business recovered between 70% to 90% of 2019 levels as some consumers prefer to get their food delivered and sales promotions became infrequent.
