Popeyes reveals plan to open more than 1,500 restaurants in China
The chicken chain is the latest international brand to enter the growing market.
Restaurant Brands International (RBI)-owned Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Inc. has announced its ambitious plan to develop and open more than 1,500 restaurants in China over the next ten years.
The agreement was made in partnership with TFI TAB Food Investments (TFI), who is also their current partner for their Burger King restaurants in the country.
"We're very excited to grow the Popeyes brand in the Chinese market," RBI chief operating officer Josh Kobza said in a statement.
"We plan to build on years of experience of growing successful businesses in China and around the world,” added TFI vice chairman and CEO Korhan Kurdoğlu.
The 1,500-store growth plan reflects Popeyes’ outlook for potential sales in China, considering their current network of over 3,100 locations in more than 25 countries worldwide, including the United States and Canada.
The chicken chain is the last of the RBI’s trio of concepts to enter the fast-growing market. Burger King has operated in China since 2005 with than 1,000 outlets whilst Tim Hortons opened their first store in the country last February.
