Subway inks master franchise deal to triple West Malaysia growth

The announcement is also part of Subway’s APAC hopes to double its current network of restaurants in the region from about 3,300 to over 6,000 in the next five years.

Subway announced a new master franchise agreement with Pegacorn Sdn Bhd to significantly expand the brand’s footprint in West Malaysia.

The deal is the third of its kind for the sandwich giant in Southeast Asia, following recent master franchise agreements in Indonesia and Thailand

A partner in Malaysia since 2019, Pegacorn will open approximately 500 new Subway locations across Peninsular Malaysia over the next 10 years under the new deal, which will effectively triple the number of Subway restaurants in the market.

“The Asia Pacific and the Southeast Asia markets continue to be a huge opportunity of growth for Subway and an essential part of our international growth strategy,” said John Chidsey, the brand’s global chief executive officer. “Pegacorn has proven to be a well-resourced, strategic and successful local operator that has the local insight and experience needed to expand Subway’s presence in Malaysia.”

Guests can expect to see an increase of non-traditional locations across Malaysia, the brand said, such as in airports, hospitals, petrol stations and convenience stores.
