A&W to open 35 restaurants across Southeast Asia this year
The announcement comes after the brand made its comeback in Singapore.
Southeast Asia will be a focus for A&W, who announced that it will open a total of 35 restaurants this year.
The American quick-service restaurant chain recently returned to Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport after a 16-year absence, and was met with long lines for its signature Root Beer Floats and Coney Dogs. Open 24 hours, the 80-seat site A&W is testing menu and service initiatives that will be used in future locations.
Celebrating its upcoming 100th anniversary, A&W Restaurants says “at least 45” international and domestic locations are expected to open in 2019. The brand has more than 960 restaurants worldwide: 597 in the U.S. and 372 in Asia.
“The amazing responses to our Singapore return, combined with the interest we are seeing from new U.S. franchisees, clearly show that A&W is a second-century growth brand,” A&W CEO Kevin Bazner said.
