McDonald's Singapore extends closure of restaurants
The chain was supposed to reopen stores by 5 May.
McDonald’s Singapore has extended its closure after initially set to reopen next week, the chain announced in a Facebook post.
“We’ve decided to extend our closure for just a little longer for the safety and well-being of our employees and customers,” it said. “We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation in the community before determining an appropriate time for us to reopen.”
Under the essential services framework, the chain said it would be allowed to restart operations from 4 May 4, but opted not to.
McDonald’s Singapore first suspended restaurant operations on 19 April, and assured employees that their jobs were secure, with salaries to be paid during the temporary closure.
"Our frontline employees are important to us and we wish for all of them to stay home a little longer," it said.
The chain also said there were no new COVID-19 cases amongst its employees.
