Japanese sushi giant adds Sushi Sushi to 430-restaurant empire

Sushi Sushi’s operator will now become a subsidiary of Genki.

Australian sushi chain Sushi Sushi has been bought by Genki Global Dining Concepts for an undisclosed amount.

Food Odyssey Pty Ltd, the operator of Sushi Sushi, will become a subsidiary of Genki Global Dining Concepts following Genki’s decision to acquire the company.

Established in 1968, Genki Global Dining Concepts is an international operator of sushi chains, with more than 430 restaurants in 13 countries. It’s brands include Genki Sushi, Senry, and Uobei.

Stephen Anders, CEO of Sushi Sushi, said in a LinkedIn post that the acquisition will now accelerate their domestic and global expansion. The comment follows the expansion of Sushi Sushi in the Middle East following a partnership with Saudi Arabian operator Kudu.

“We believe we can accelerate Sushi Sushi’s next stage of growth while leveraging its strengths. Grab & go sushi will represent a significant growth opportunity in future global expansion,” Anders said in a press release.

Masuzo Fujio, President & CEO of  Genki Global Dining Concepts Co., Ltd, said that the brand gas a high alignment with the group’s global growth strategy, with Sushi Sushi’s strong value proposition supported by customers and an excellent track record in franchise operations, providing significant growth potential both domestically and internationally.

“Its dedication to quality, freshness, and customer satisfaction aligns closely with our mission to build one of the world’s top Japanese-origin sushi brands,” Fujio said.

The announcement follows the debut of Sushi Sushi’s app and loyalty programme.

Sushi Sushi has over 180 restaurants.
