McDonald’s Singapore to charge extra for condiments starting 2 January
The brand said this is ‘to help manage food waste and rising food cost’.
Mcdonald’s Singapore announced that it will start a nominal charge for sauces starting at SG$0.50c beyond the allocated quantities for specific menu items to ‘help manage food waste and rising food costs’.
Ketchup and Garlic Chili Sauce will continue to be provided at no charge, based on a fixed allocation to a food order. McDonald’s said it will be charging for all other sauces if requested beyond the usual allocation for respective menu products.
To determine the quality of allotted sauces, the fast food giant said they have a ‘condiment policy that takes into consideration the appropriate number of sauce packs to be enjoyed with the food.’
In May, Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA said the average price of a Big Mac in the US increased by 21% from $4.39 in 2019 to $5.29.
When asked how McDonald's plans to address concerns from customers and ensure that allocated quantities of sauces meet customer expectations, the brand said they've considered customer feedback and requests to ensure allocated quantities continue to meet their needs.
"We’ll always hear what our customers are saying to provide them with the best possible experience without compromising on quality or value. We appreciate our customers’ understanding and support, and hope they will continue to enjoy their favourite food and sauces," a McDonald's spokesperson said.
