Strategic approaches to digitalisation amidst COVID takes centre stage during QSR Media Asia’s virtual conference
Operators also presented their lessons on retooling their businesses.
Views on the importance of continued digitalisation amidst the unpredictability of COVID-19 took centre stage during QSR Media Asia’s latest digital conference on September 22.
Over a hundred senior restaurant brand executives across Asia-Pacific and beyond attended the three-hour event, which kicked off with a presentation from Bain & Company’s Fai Assakul and Derek Keswakaroon on how chains have shifted from a recovery mindset to retooling themselves for the future.
In their presentation, chains were advised to be clear in targeting one’s customer base, strengthen their omnichannel “muscle”, understand the importance and incentives of practicing sustainability and aligning one’s operating model with a focus on creating compelling employee propositions.
“The North Star really starts with your consumer,” Keswakaroon said. “Don’t try to be all things to everyone.”
Operators’ take on pandemic-proofing their business with bespoke experiences in-store and online were then shared by Restaurant Brands International APAC president Ekrem Ozer, Subway regional business development manager for Asia Pacific David Leong and Express Food Group managing director Martin Darby.
Foodpanda APAC chief operating officer Pedram Assadi then highlighted the opportunities for restaurant chains in a growing food delivery market and shared insights on potential pathways in the space.
