Chinese consumers dine out less amidst increasing restaurant prices

Almost 2 in 5 are paying attention to restaurant coupons for discounts.

Chinese consumers are dining out less as they notice that the cost to eat out has been steadily increasing, a report by Circana revealed. 

In February, 41.5% said that prices had increased, an increase from 38.4% in January. Circana also reported that most consumers understand that appropriate price increases are needed and have accepted them but insist that the quality and richness of the food provided must also be improved.

30.2% of consumers said in March that they plan to dine out less. Chinese consumers opting to lessen spending on eating out have started to increase since October last year when only 24% of consumers reported that they will spend less on dining out.

Because of high prices, more Chinse consumers have started to search for coupon promotions, with 31.2% of consumers saying they always pay attention to coupons. Coupons are often recommended by staff (33.3%), search for it themselves (28.8%) or search for coupons when they pay the bills (17%).
