Yum Brands is leading QSR operator in Malaysia: report

But the full service sector is still the largest foodservice sector in the market.

Yum Brands Inc, which manages KFC, was the leading QSR  operator last year, with more than 700 outlets, GlobalData said in its report.

In November 2021, KFC introduced Ayam Pedas Nyonya to offer unique collisions of different local flavours to celebrate Malaysia’s Peranakan Heritage.

All foodservice profit sector channels in Malaysia are expected to experience growth in increasing stores during 2021 to 2026.

Its full-service restaurant maintained its throne on being the largest foodservice profit sector channel in Malaysia in 2021, accounting for 39.8% of total profit sector revenue.

Biswarup Bose, Consumer Analyst at GlobalData, said, “The outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the second half of 2021 resulted in the implementation of lockdown restrictions on restaurants; reduced tourist footfall; and increased health and safety concerns. Moreover, in 2020, profit sector channels were either operating under restrictions or were closed, leading to decreased dine-in occasions in the sector.”
