9 in 10 HK restaurants credit sales boost to deliveries during events
65% of restaurants saw stable or increased revenue during major summer sports events.
Nine in 10 restaurants in Hong Kong said that delivery platforms have helped them maintain a stable business or bring in extra business during major sports events and festivities over the past quarter, a report by Deliveroo revealed.
Reflecting on the major sports events in summer, 65% of restaurants saw a stable or a slight increase in revenue from both dine-in and takeaway businesses. In September, the Mid-autumn Festival led to stable or slightly increased revenue for 67% of restaurants in dine-in and 63% in takeaway.
According to Deliveroo, this shows these events have driven more customer traffic and spending that benefits the restaurant business in both dine-in and takeaway.
The survey also reveals that 83% of restaurants anticipate that the upcoming festivities will have a neutral or positive effect on their business, prompting them to plan accordingly with promotions and special offerings. 39% of restaurants are planning to increase their takeaway menu options, whilst 35% are preparing special promotions or events. Additionally, over half (54%) of the surveyed restaurants are planning to adjust their menu as the weather gets cooler, adapting to seasonal preferences
The survey results were derived from Deliveroo’s Restaurant Confidence Index during the third quarter of 2024. The survey, conducted between 2 and 13 October, highlights the crucial role of food delivery services during major events and festivities.
