APAC food away-from-home market to reach $2.73t by 2033

Growth is driven largely by urbanisation and a rising working population.

The Asia-Pacific food away-from-home market was valued at about $1.81t in 2025 and is projected to grow to $1.92t in 2026, reaching $2.73t by 2033, according to Grand View Research.

It rises at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1%.

Growth is being driven largely by urbanisation and a rising working population, which is increasing demand for quick-service restaurants and ready-to-eat meals.

The expansion of food delivery platforms and shifting consumer preferences toward more varied cuisines are also contributing to higher spending outside the home.

Tourism and hospitality are adding further momentum, as dining has become a key part of travel behaviour in the region.

Data from April 2026 shows food is now amongst the top three travel motivations in Asia, with many travellers prioritising culinary experiences over traditional sightseeing.

Destinations such as Taiwan, Vietnam, and South Korea are benefiting from interest in local cuisine, food tours, and experience-driven dining.

Infrastructure development and commercial real estate expansion are also supporting growth by increasing the number of food courts, cafés, and casual dining outlets.

Social patterns, including more frequent dining out for meetings and celebrations, are adding to steady demand.

China accounted for 45.9% of regional revenues in 2025, supported by dense urban populations, fast-paced lifestyles, and widespread use of mobile payment systems that simplify transactions in foodservice outlets.

India is expected to record the fastest growth, with a projected CAGR of 6.3% over the forecast period.

Growth there is tied to a young population, rising preference for eating out and ordering in, and rapid expansion of organised delivery platforms.

Higher disposable incomes are also increasing spending on dining experiences. Industry data from March 2026 shows delivery platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, and Magicpin saw a rebound in orders during October–December 2025, helped by festive demand, discounting, and stronger adoption in smaller cities.

Zomato reported faster growth, whilst Swiggy’s gross order value rose 20.5%, driven by higher order volumes and more active users.

Japan’s market is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 5.5%. Demand is shaped by a strong preference for convenience, consistent quality, and efficient service.

The country’s dense network of compact dining formats—such as vending-based meals and small eateries—supports everyday consumption.

Technology is widely used in ordering and service systems, improving efficiency.

An ageing population is also increasing the demand for ready-to-eat and nutritionally balanced food options.
