Singapore's F&B sales see larger decline in January
Online sales, in contrast, was slightly higher.
Singapore’s food and beverage sales fell 24.7% in January on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, according to new data from the country’s statistics department.
The new figure is deeper than the 16.3% fall recorded last December.
Food caterers saw the largest decline, with sales plummeting 76% YoY, followed by restaurants (30.2%), cafes, food courts as well as other eating outlets (6.8%).
Fast food outlets registered a 6.7% decline compared to the other segments.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, all industries also registered declines of between 3.6% and 10.1%.
The total sales value of food and beverage services in January was also estimated at S$720 million, with 22.1% due to online sales, slightly higher than 21.3% last December.
