Hong Kong restaurant show growing optimism for 2025—survey
Almost 2 in 3 restaurant businesses expect the upcoming holidays to boost sales.
The Restaurant Confidence Index for the fourth quarter of 2024 has improved from 5.1 in Q3 to 6, indicating a more optimistic outlook amongst restaurants in Hong Kong as they enter 2025.
The survey, conducted by Deliveroo between January 2 and 12, highlights the impact of food delivery services and upcoming market opportunities.
Results showed that 93% of restaurants consider food delivery platforms to be equally or more important to their operations in the near future. Restaurants reported steady business during the Christmas and New Year period, with 61% indicating stable or increased revenue from dine-in customers and 59% seeing similar results for takeaway services. Compared to the previous quarter, 65% of restaurants reported stable or increased revenue from dine-in customers, whilst 57% saw the same for takeaway orders.
Looking ahead, 63% of restaurants expect Lunar New Year and Valentine's Day to have a neutral or positive effect on their business. To capitalise on these celebrations, 28% plan to introduce special festival menus, while 20% are preparing promotional events.
Restaurants are also anticipating business opportunities from upcoming large-scale events in Hong Kong, such as the Hong Kong Sevens and major concerts. According to the survey, 83% of restaurants expect these events to have a neutral or positive impact on their business in the first quarter of 2025.
