Food on foot: Deliveroo to trial walking delivery within Singapore's CBD
The 50-rider initiative will start on 8 July.
Seeing heavy traffic within Singapore’s central business district, Deliveroo is set to trial geared to work around it: delivery on foot.
Speaking to QSR Media, Deliveroo confirmed that the trial will start on 8 July and will last for approximately one month. 50 out of the delivery company’s 6,000-strong rider base will participate in the initiative.
Some riders who regularly deliver in the CBD have told Deliveroo that it is easier to get around on foot as traffic can be quite heavy during peak hours.
“We have an Employee Rider Programme where Deliveroo employees complete deliveries to better understand the challenges riders face, and introduce initiatives which can improve the rider experience. Many of the employees have tried walking and found it to be effective, which was why we decided to trial this,” a spokesperson for Deliveroo explained.
Similar to riders on vehicles, riders will be free to walk and deliver within hours of operation.
“We will be speaking with riders participating in this trial to get feedback on their experience, before rolling it out to the wider rider fleet,” the spokesperson added.
