Chatime expects to have 35 outlets in Japan by end-2019
One of their outlets in Osaka has reported sales of more than 2,000 cups per day.
Chatime has expressed positive sentiments in its expansion in Japan, expecting to have 35 outlets in the country by the end of the year.
The Taiwanese bubble tea chain claims to be the fastest-growing brand in Japan in its category, with an average of 1.5 stores opening per month. It recently opened a new outlet in Shibuya 109, Tokyo on 28 June and another in Shibuya’s Center Street on 10 July.
Chatime says its shop in Shibuya 109 has daily sales of a thousand cups whilst its outlet in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi District now has become their top store, reporting sales of more than 2,000 cups per day.
Chatime says Japanese female consumers make up a significant part of their sales, targeting them further through the launch of limited products with visually appealing packages and incorporating a large area of 3D painted walls in the interior design of the tea shops.
Designed by local Japanese designers for people to check in on social media, Chatime says customers spent more time on queuing for a picture taking than a cup of bubble tea.
