Consumers demand transparency in QSR food impact
Diners want to know the carbon footprint, sourcing, and nutrition behind every meal.
Quick service restaurants (QSRs) must prepare for a more demanding consumer—one who wants not just flavour and speed, but full transparency on how food choices impact the planet.
“We’re seeing a rise in consumers wanting to know more about the planetary impact of their choices,” said Dan Campion, Sustainability Lead, APMEA at Kerry. “That could be about the carbon footprint, the sourcing of ingredients, or the nutrition of the products.”
As awareness around sustainability and health grows, diners are asking for reduced sugar, lower salt, and more honest labelling. At the same time, they want indulgent options—without compromising their values.
“Consumers are looking for brands to stand for something,” Campion said. “They choose where they eat based on that purpose.”
With AI and regulations making more data accessible, the challenge now is communicating it clearly. “How do we communicate that to consumers in a way that helps them make those choices?” he asked.
