Japan Rail Cafe debuts in Singapore
The company's first overseas venture opened on 4th December.
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) announced that the new travel themed café will be located on the level 1 of Tanjong Pagar Centre, connected to Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.
Aiming to promote travel to Japan, Japan Rail Cafe will provide Japan lovers with a one stop Japan-like experience including the latest Japanese products such as trendy items and convenient rail ticketing service for Japan rail passes. It will also serve as a platform to communicate unique information to Singaporeans about the less known travel destinations in Japan.
Japanese communicators who are proficient in English will communicate with the customers, introducing unique destinations in Japan to travelers who are planning for their upcoming trips. Travelers can look forward to sharing their itineraries with one another to explore places that are popular among Japanese but not yet widely known to foreign travelers.
“Just in time to commemorate SJ50, we are very glad to be able to offer Japan Rail Cafe as a permanent physical space to build a community for Japan lovers to interact closer and come together to share their experiences on travelling to Japan. Through regular interesting onsite activities such as scrapbooking and other interactive workshops to be held, we aim to promote more interest in the less well-known sightseeing regions for adventurous Singaporeans who actively plan their own itineraries even few months prior to their trips”, Makoto Yamataka, General Manager, said.
The café space is divided into the dining area, which will also be used as an event space during workshops, rail pass ticketing area and retail area.
The café food menu will offer a combination of various F&B recipes developed by JR East Food Business (JFEB), a food subsidiary under the JR East Group. A range of daily Japanese food such as burger sets, sandwich sets and rice bowls will be served. Every month, a special menu will be launched featuring a few representative dishes of the monthly featured region.
