Flash Coffee adds in-app donate button to bolster plastic neutral campaign
Its Japan operations will pilot switching to paper cups for iced drinks this month.
Flash Coffee announced a new app feature that allows customers to contribute S$0.20 to assist in funding initiatives to recover and remove plastic waste from the environment, part of an updated arrangement with green start-up CleanHub.
All of the contributions from the optional top-up feature will go towards funding select collection partners of CleanHub. Upon check-out, customers will be notified of the latest volume of plastic-collection they have enabled through tracking technology.
November 2021 saw Flash Coffee aiming to be plastic neutral — where a measured equivalent of plastic waste is recovered and removed from the environment for every amount of plastic created — for all past, present and future purchases.
“Our team remains committed to protecting the environment and minimising our impact wherever possible, and we are consistently reviewing supply chain upstream and downstream processes, product designs, in-store initiatives and beyond to understand how we can do more. We look forward to unveiling more sustainability-focused campaigns and partnerships with like-minded brands in the future,” Flash Coffee founder and CEO David Brunier said.
In a bid to cut the volume of single-use plastics in the coffee chain’s operations, Flash Coffee’s Japan operations will pilot switching to paper cups for iced drinks this month, an initiative that will be rolled out across the wider region this year.
