Jollibee tagged in Philippine ‘endo' issue
The country’s largest fast food operator is suspected to be engaged in labor-only contracting. The Philippines’ Department of Labor and Employment named 20 companies that they claim or suspect to engage in labor-only contracting, depriving employees of security of tenure. In a report by ABS-CBN News, Jollibee is listed as having topped the list, with 14,960 "affected" workers. The labor department previously ordered Jollibee and subsidiary Burger King, to regularize about 7,000 workers, prior to Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte signing an executive order to stop “endo” or hiring workers in 5-month-long cycles.
Alibaba unveils “smart-ordering” system
Customers at cafés and restaurants may soon place their orders in a machine via voice. With the aim of enhancing the customer experience, Alibaba launched its “smart ordering” system – featuring software where order placements are addressed to a machine via voice recognition technology. The new innovation from Alibaba Machine Intelligence Technologies boasts that the machine’s AI is able make as many order changes or corrections to update the order in real time.

The agreed expansion will take place in the next three years. Aiming to expand its business and restaurant services in Malaysia, QSR Stores has signed a memorandum of understanding with Petronas Dagangan to gradually open 50 new KFC Drive-Thru outlets at Petronas stations nationwide. QSR Stores is a wholly-owned subsidiary QSR Brands (M) Holdings, who in turn is the franchisor of KFC in Malaysia. Currently, it has over 1,250 KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Cambodia – making it the region’s largest quick service restaurant operator. QSR Brands Managing Director Datuk Mohamed Azahari Mohamed Kamil said this strategic collaboration with PDB will provides an "excellent opportunity for QSR Brands to expand its business and restaurant services for the next three years." “As a market leader within the quick service restaurants segment in Malaysia, we want our service to be easily accessible to customers. While continuing to strengthen our core product and service offerings to deliver excellent customer experiences, we place a great emphasis on our expansion strategies to meet the elevated demands of our customers today and tomorrow,” he said.
